With my past experience as a sales rep at COPYCATS Media, I know that preparing art files can often be the most difficult step for a customer when they are replicating or duplicating their CD/DVD project. It didn’t matter if I was dealing with a band, a film maker, a small business, or a big corporation; lots of customers had questions and troubles setting up their files correctly.
Today, we’ll go over the list of programs that you should and should not use for your graphic layout.
Acceptable file formats and programs
Quark (.qxd), Illustrator (.eps, .ai), InDesign (.ind), Acrobat Distiller (.pdf)
These are the preferred programs to use for your layout and design. Our designers are equipped to use any of these file formats and can easily help make corrections or adjustments to your files if needed.
Undesirable file formats and programs
Photoshop (.psd, .tiff, .jpg), Adobe Page Maker (.pmd), Macromedia Freehand (.fhd), Corel Draw (.crd)
These programs are labeled as undesirable because we are able to use them, but they often require more prepress work that will cost you more money. Also, these programs don’t always give you the best quality when printing.
Unacceptable file formats and programs
MS Office (.doc, .pub, .exe, .ppt), EZ CD Creator
These files are only good for home use and not professional printing. There is nothing that we can do with these files to make them work. The only thing we could do is recreate the design at our standard hourly rate.
If you have any further questions about getting your design files set up correctly, feel free to contact our art department. You can also find free templates for your replication/duplication project at our website.
